I have several types of mid-layer shirts, including ones which cost 2x (or more!) than these.

Some of the polypropylene or fleece ones may be warmer...but they are usually far too warm when worn indoors or during activity outside. All-wool ones are nice...but they are extremely expensive and not nearly as comfortable. I think it makes more sense to use your outer layer(s) for added warmth as may be necessary.

These shirts are quite warm thanks to the wool outer layer, yet Unlike synthetics are extremely comfortable due to the cotton inner layer. They last very long, and are comfortable and indoors and outdoors.

Once you buy these you wish you bought more. I never wear any of my expensive name-brand synthetics or more pure, ever.
